Founder at Institute of Robotics | Serial Entrepreneur with 3 companies acquired | BBC Dragons Den veteran
The answer of 99 out of 100 questions is money. After spending years chasing it, my quest took me through from working in double glazing at 16, through to becoming a stockbroker a then rather entertaining encounter on BBC's Dragons Den (for my sins).
I later found my calling as an entrepreneur where I specialise in finding value in ideas. I create start-ups and technology from inception through development and right up to the acquisition. This process often involves building teams, creating structure, seeking investment and making the start-up an ideal acquisition target.
My last start-up grew to be one of Uber UK's largest partners and then it got acquired by Secret Escapes in 2015. After the acquisition, I followed a long time passion for tech and became a student again. I went to university to study Robotics and Artificial Intelligence. While in university I invented the worlds first Artificially Intelligent robot librarian called Hugh, filed a couple of patents including SkyHighway, an invisible road network which drones use to fly and navigate for deliveries. A couple of years later, I put together an extraordinary team of engineers, scientists, and researchers and founded the Academy of Robotics. In 2019, my team and I beat some of the largest companies in the world to launch a street legal autonomous vehicle, Kar-go, which we unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Kar-go is an electric vehicle able to drive itself on unmarked roads using evolutionary neural networks to do most of the car's thinking while powered by our in-house built self driving operating system. Kar-go is designed to deliver packages autonomously removing up to 90% of the cost of last mile delivery.
